        Online table rules

        1. Whoever opens the table picks the match length: single game, first to 2 or first to 3. There are no draws: first to 2 ends 2-0 or 2-1, first to 3 ends 3-0, 3-1 or 3-2. A gammon is worth 2 points.
        2. You have 60 seconds per turn. If time runs out your move is played automatically. In a match (however many games it lasts) this can happen twice; running out of time a 3rd time loses the match.
        3. If your connection drops, your seat is held and, if it's your turn, your clock stops; when you return, your dice and moves continue where you left off. You have 3 disconnections per match: return within 90 seconds the 1st time, 75 the 2nd and 60 the 3rd, or you lose. A 4th disconnection loses the match immediately.
        4. Switching to another app or tab is allowed and isn't a disconnection, but your clock keeps running; when it's your turn you must come back and play within 60 seconds.
        5. In the league the winner earns as many points as the match length (single game 1, first to 2 gives 2, first to 3 gives 3), +1 for a gammon. A player who abandons the table or loses on time loses 1 point.

        Game rules

        1. Each player has 15 checkers. The goal is to bring them all home and bear them off the board.
        2. Roll the dice and move checkers by the numbers shown. Doubles (e.g. 4-4) give four moves.
        3. Landing on a point with a single opposing checker hits it. The hit checker goes to the bar and must re-enter first.
        4. A point with two or more checkers is closed: your opponent cannot land there.
        5. Once all your checkers are home you start bearing off. The first to bear off all checkers wins.
        6. If you finish before your opponent bears off any checker, it's a gammon and the game is worth 2 points.
        7. If you have a hit checker and all six points of your opponent's home board are closed, you can't enter: your turn passes without rolling until a point opens.

        Anatomy of a backgammon board

What makes a good board good are the details you don’t see at first glance.

        Anatomy of a backgammon board
        1. 01

          Playing surface

Billiard cloth, wood or khatam inlay: the surface sets the sound and glide of every move.

        2. 02

          Checkers

Balanced weight and edges that sit well in the hand; epoxy, wood or khatam.

        3. 03

          Hinges

Concealed or brass hinges, built to open and close for years.

        4. 04

          Sloped rails

Inward-sloping inner rails so the dice roll freely without catching.

        5. 05

          Lock & case

Magnetic, keyed or combination locks; carrying cases with checker slots.

        Frequently asked questions

        All questions
        Are your products handmade?

The production method of our products varies by model. Handwork plays an important role especially in carved and khatam/inlaid backgammon boards, while in modern backgammon boards the materials, design and finishing details stand out.

We prepare our products together with the manufacturers and experienced craftsmen we select, and we choose them with care for quality, craftsmanship and the experience they offer in use.

What size backgammon board should I buy?

When choosing a backgammon board, the playing experience, the intended use and how freely the checkers move on the playing surface matter as much as the size.

Compact models may suit everyday use, while models with a wider playing area are better for long and serious games. The dimensions of our products are stated on the product pages.

If you are unsure, you can contact us and we will help you choose the model that best suits your intended use.

What is the difference between carved, khatam and modern backgammon boards?

Modern backgammon boards offer a more contemporary look and personalisation options with leather covering, a special playing surface, and colour and design choices.

Carved backgammon boards stand out with carving and handcrafted details applied to the wooden surface. Different woods such as walnut, hornbeam, mahogany and oak can be used.

Khatam and inlaid backgammon boards attract attention with their geometric patterns and fine craftsmanship, created by bringing together small pieces of different materials.

Will the product I receive be the same as the one in the photo?

For in-stock products, the product you see on the product page is the one we ship.

For handcrafted products or those made with natural wood, natural variations may appear in colour, grain and small details. These variations are part of the product's natural and unique character.
